WASSENAAR, THE NETHERLANDS

Studio &Space has transformed this 1930s Wassenaar residence, seamlessly blending heritage with contemporary living. A full-scale renovation enhances its historic character while introducing openness, light, and a refined, timeless aesthetic.

At the heart of the design is a deep respect for the home’s original architecture. Signature 1930s details—figure glass windows, terrazzo flooring, and geometric motifs—are carefully reinterpreted with a modern sensibility. Restored window frames and parquet flooring preserve a tactile connection to the past, while refined materials and finishes bridge eras with cohesion.

The restructured floor plan fosters a sense of flow and connection. By opening up the space, Studio &Space introduced a contemporary layout where the kitchen, crafted from rich walnut wood and natural stone, forms the home’s warm and sophisticated core. Inspired by 1970s design, it balances elegance with functionality.

Natural materials anchor the interior, adding texture and depth. Aged brass, warm wood tones, and natural stone create a layered, understated luxury. The palette—earthy hues of cream, ochre, brown, and deep burgundy—infuses the home with warmth and a sense of grounding.

A carefully curated selection of furniture and lighting enhances the material narrative.
Bespoke pieces and mid-century modernist vintage, primarily from the 1970s, lend the home a refined yet eclectic character. The result is a space where history and modernity coexist effortlessly, embodying timeless sophistication.
